The Before of our New Home!

Hello!  I hope you are having a good start to your week!  I have some exciting news to share with you today!!  We are going to be building a new home!

It is something I have always dreamed of doing and am in awe that after many many years of working towards this goal that this dream is being realized!:-)

Today I wanted to share a picture of the before of our new house.  This is the land we will be building our new home on.

Right now the before is bare and unkempt but I am so excited to see our new home be built step by step.  I think the process will be as exciting for me as the end result.

I used the free program Floorplanner (that I showed how to use HERE) to create a custom floor plan that I envisioned would be ideal for our family for the next 10+ years.  Then after doing some research on the builders in my area I brought it to a local custom builder and they took the plan and used their more sophisticated architectural programs to create the plans for our home.

It is expected that they will start digging this week!  They predict the that home will be done 6 months from the dig date so that puts us somewhere around the end of November (Thanksgiving perhaps).

We will be staying in our current home until it’s ready.  We only live a few minutes from the home we will be building so I am sure I will be over there a lot checking on the progress.

Are you interested in seeing the progress?  How often would you like to see updates on our home?  weekly?  every other week? once a month? every other month?

I would be so appreciative if you could let me know your preference in the one question survey below!

Thank you in advance!  Your feedback helps a lot!

Well, that’s it for today!  Just wanted to share this exciting news with you!

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week and as always thank you for being here!!

Congrats to you. We have built 2 homes and we are now considering our 3rd. It’s time to downsize for us. I’d love to hear about your experience.

Hi Tamara. I was hoping you could give me some pointers on how best to use Floorplanner to alter/update the existing footprint of a very old extension on the back of our Victorian weatherboard cottage. We don’t want to rip it down and start again, but would like to open it up more fully into an open plan space that will include removing the dissecting central passage in this space. The old kitchen is currently housed in one of the back rooms in the extension. Eventually we hope to create a kitchen-diner and living space in this extension which runs the entire length of the back of the house. The plan is to install french doors that will lead out onto a covered deck, and factor in a walk-in-pantry. How does one create a floor plan using Floorplanner? I know you have a tutorial for creating furniture layout within a room, but would you happen to have any tips for creating a floor plan in a much larger space? A tweaked version is what we will eventually submit to a draughtsman, for planning permits. Many thanks! heather 🙂
