Favorite Interior Designers Series- Victoria Hagan

Hello, Friends!  I am back today with another interior designer favorite!  In the past I have showcased the work of the talented, James Radin and Martha O’ Hara. Today I will share some of my favorite spaces created by interior designer, Victoria  Hagan. Victoria Hagan started her design company, Victoria Hagan Interiors, over 20 years ago.  In 2004 she was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame (which I didn’t even know existed)!  Her work is exquisite!  I will stop talking and let you see for yourself…   Images via Victoria Hagan Interiors This last photo above is one of my favorites. So why is Victoria Hagan one of my favorite designers? She knows how to set a mood or tone for a space.  And it helps that the tone she usually creates is one of my favorites which I have coined, Casual Elegance. I love the height and fullness of the drapes she chooses for the spaces! I love how each space contains an element (a piece of furniture, artwork, etc.) that is unique and interesting (did you notice in the photo of the bathroom…

Favorite Interior Designers Series – Martha O’Hara Interiors

Martha O’Hara Interiors is a Minneapolis based design firm which was started over 20 years ago by…let’s see if you can guess.  Yes, Martha O’Hara. 🙂 Although Martha still works with each client she also has a team of designers that share her serious knack for putting together beautiful, well-orchestrated spaces. I first laid eyes on their work a couple of years ago as I perused Houzz.com.  The picture that caught my eye was of this family room.  I saved it to my “ideabook” on Houzz with the caption “I love the color of the room and the use of color and patterns.”   Martha O’Hara Interiors via Houzz   At the time when I first “met” Martha I was very comfortable with my almost all neutral décor palette.  Neutral walls, neutral accents, with a little bit of soft blue is what my ideal spaces consisted of (and which I still love).  But as I have studied the work of Martha and her team I have come to love the use of a bold color or pattern here…

Favorite Interior Designers Series- James Radin

Hi Guys! I hope you have had a great week! I’ve been busy this week working on the kids/guest bathroom. New floors are 85% done, window treatment 75%, and painting cabinetry 0% but I will be getting started on that tomorrow. I’m excited about the progress and am hopeful next time I will have something to show for it!:-) Today I am excited to start a new series showcasing some of my favorite interior designer’s work!  I find studying their work to be so inspiring and helpful as I strive to achieve similar looks in my own home. Although I’m sure they have much larger budgets to work with I truly believe that if I am able to take careful note as to what makes their spaces click that I (and you too!) can create similarly beautiful homes. So lets begin! First up in this series is Designer, James Radin.  James Radin has had over 30 years of professional experience.  In his earlier years he worked primarily in the commercial sector of design.  After changing gears…

Decorating 101- How to Create a Mood Board

Hello!  I hope you had a great week!  This week I’ve started putting together an inspiration board (or mood board) for my upcoming laundry room makeover. If you aren’t familiar with what a mood board is– it is basically pulling pictures, paint colors, flooring samples, tile samples, furniture pieces etc. together in one spot to see how they all look in unison and to gain a clear vision for where your space is going. You can do this with actual physical materials or you can use the computer to get a virtual representation. Here are some examples of both kinds of mood boards   Real Life via Studio Mcgee via Studio Mcgee   Virtual via Young House Love via Young House Love Mood boards are fairly simple to make. 3 Steps to Creating a Mood Board 1. Search for Inspiration.  Pinterest and Houzz are great free resources for decorating inspiration.  I have Pinterest boards for each type of room in the house and when I find a space I like I pin it to that…

Designer Spotlight- Kelly Nutt Design

First of all I wanted to thank everyone who commented on my last post about what paint color palette would look best on my home’s exterior!  Your comments were super helpful and much appreciated!!:-) A few years back I had a little series going where I spotlighted the work of my favorite interior designers.  I did maybe 3 of them and then poof just like the latest kid’s trend (think silly bands, rainbow loom bracelets, soon fidget spinners) my designer spotlight series was gone. I’m not even sure why.   It must have been one of my notorious brain farts (I’m really good at those…not to brag or anything).:-) Well, over the past month or so the work of interior designer, Kelly Nutt Design, has caught my eye on Instagram (you can join me on Instagram HERE)!   Her style is best described as overall traditional with a definite light and airy emphasis and she has a serious knack for creating spaces that are both relaxed and sophisticated–not an easy feat See for yourself! Hello!  I hope you’ve had a wonderful week! I’ve gotten some questions lately on how to style bookshelves and so today I’m going to share my 8 tips to becoming a master bookshelf stylist in your own home! This isn’t something that I intrinsically knew how to do.  It took a lot studying and some practice (and I’m sure I still have more to learn) but I am confident this post will help you decorate your bookshelves like a pro!   8 Tips to a Well-Styled Bookshelf   Tip #1. Layering–  Just like layering a room is important to creating depth and interest so is layering a shelf (the post about layering a room can be found HERE).  Layering a shelf is best achieved when you stack items on top of each other with the smallest item on the very top. via Ballard Designs   For example, if you have a beautiful decorative bowl you can add layers to it by adding a couple of large books underneath it and then another layer by putting decorative…

38 Go-To Paint Colors for Your Home!

The past several months I’ve been compiling a list of paint colors that I would call the best Go-To-Paint Colors around right now (and likely for very many years to come). I wanted to give you the cliffs notes version to paint colors!  Sometimes the number of paint color options can be enough to make your head spin (in rainbow colors)! It might sound easy enough to pick a paint color but then you have a billion different hues with a billion different undertones and intensities.  It makes me feel anxious just talking about it.:-) This post is meant to help save you time and headaches from paint color option paralysis by giving you 38 tried and true beautiful paint colors to begin with rather than millions! I hope it helps!!  Please feel free to ask questions and if you want to share your favorite go-to paint colors in the comment section I would love to hear them!   38 Beautiful Go-To Paint Colors WHITE 1 Behr Pure White–  This is what I use for all of my trim,…

Budget-Friendly Home Decor Fabric

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week so far!  I’ve busy working away on my home goals for the New Year.  This week I’ve been installing “crown molding” trim in the foyer and hallway and I’m getting excited about how the space is taking shape! Here is a little sneak peek! Today I want to share with you where I go to find budget-friendly home decor fabric! If you follow my fabric board on Pinterest you may already know I have a slight obsession with fabric.:-)  When a fabric speaks to me I can’t help but speak back and it usually is something like “Hey baby, I want you”! Don’t know why I have this connection with fabric but I can’t deny it.:-)  So, basically i just try to stay away from it, unless I have a project that calls for fabric (it truly is a blessing I’m so practical/thrifty or I could easily become a fabricaholic)! So what do I consider a good price per yard for home decor fabric?  My frugally-minded self…

Warm Wishes- Easy Crockpot Chili & 12 Cozy Spaces to Inspire

Hi Guys!  I’m popping in this weekend to share a delicious recipe and some cozy design inspiration!  Temperatures outside plummeted this week and it got me yearning for my favorite chili (as well as my couch, throw, and design magazines)!  My husband was introduced to this recipe by a college roommate–it was a family recipe. 5 years ago my husband signed us up to bring a pot of chili to our church’s Chili Cookoff.  I told my husband that since he signed us up he would need to be the one to make it!!:-)  He was actually excited about it because he had an idea to add a bit of barbeque sauce to the already awesome chili recipe. The Chili Cookoff was held on a Friday night so I decided I would go ahead and make it since my husband would only have time to swing by from work and pick us up.  I added the bit of barbeque sauce trusting my husband wouldn’t lead me astray. Well,  I  we won the Chili Cookoff that night!!:-)  Out of 30 pots of chili 6 judges concluded that ours was the best!…
