New Build- Bonus Room Reveal

Hello!  I hope you have been well!  I certainly didn’t expect to go that long without posting!

My excuse- Moving is no joke, decorating takes time, then of course being a mom to 4 kids, and perhaps some writer burnout but now we are all moved in, about 85% decorated, kids are back to school and I want to show you our new house!

I wanted to start with the bonus room because if is one of my favorites.  In our house before we had a media room on the main level with a TV and a play room in the basement with a TV.

We found that the kids hardly ever wanted to play or hangout downstairs and definitely not alone (‘basements are scary’ is what they would say).  Anyways, I knew we would have a media room again on our main level like in our last house but this time I wanted to put the extra hangout room upstairs instead of in the basement (our basement here is not finished at all).

The size of the bonus room is around 14′ x 17′ with 3 windows and a bumped up ceiling.

In this room the kids play the PS4, watch TV, do gymnastics, work on their homework, and I do yoga (Yoga with Adriene on Youtube is great and free!) and lift weights.

I chose to ground the room with THIS fun, comfortable rug (only downside of the rug is that it sheds but I’m hoping after a year or so it will stop shedding).

I used Ikea products to create the TV console and bookshelves as well as the desk area.

I added a long piece of wood trim at the bottom to make it look like it is one big furniture piece.  I also switched out the original plastic Ikea pulls with pulls I found on Amazon to give it a higher-end look.  We are really happy with the result!

Here is a list of sources for items in the room.

Can I ask how this rug would feel on bare feet or to sit on? I love the look but am concerned about prickly ness

Hi Laura! The rug is actually soft and not prickly at all. So it is comfortable to sit and walk on. That being said the white wavy pattern is a higher pile than the rest of the rug which might bother some people. It doesn’t bother me when sitting or walking but sometimes when doing yoga it gets in the way. Hope this helps!:-)

Hi Suzy, great question! So on one end is the Klimpen Drawers and the other end is the Alex Dresser and because the desk is so long (it could probably fit two chairs) I added a support leg that I got from Ikea as well. I totally forgot to link the support leg but have since updated the post with the link. Let me know if you have any other questions!
