Interview with Interior Designer, Lauren Liess!!!!

Hello! I know I used a lot of exclamation points in the title but I truly am that excited about this post! If you are familiar with Lauren Liess and her work than you know why. She is a remarkable interior designer and all around person and I’m still awestruck that I got to interview her! It was about 6 years ago that I came across Lauren’s work on her blog, Pure Style Home (now www.laurenliess.com).  It was this photo below of the kitchen in her first home that captured my attention. In addition to the adorable pint-sized blondie I loved the chalkboard painted fridge, the green cabinets, the open shelves, and pretty much everything about the room. Over the past 6 years Lauren’s work has continued to inspire me and so many others.  Her work has been published in several well known magazines including– Domino, Luxe, Southern Living, Better Homes & Gardens, Country Living, Garden & Gun, and Washingtonian. via BHG via Country Living via Hooked on Houses   Besides being an accomplished interior designer and…

Easy Dresser Makeover + Progress in the Bedroom

Easy Dresser Makeover + Progress in the Bedroom

Hello! Today I want share an easy way to makeover an outdated dresser. Distressed furniture continues to be a popular trend which is good for us because it makes re-doing a dresser even that much easier! Here is the dresser that inspired this furniture makeover. via Pottery Barn Side Note:  And if you like the mirror above the dresser I have a knockoff version that happens to be featured on the Better Homes and Gardens website (insert excited, nerdy squeal).  You can view it, HERE. 🙂 And back to the dresser notice how a warm wood tone shows through on the legs of the dresser.  If you are able to look even closer you will see that wood peeks through slightly on the drawer fronts as well. I have been helping my friend re-do her master bedroom.  This past week we focused on the wall across from her bed that needed redecorating. Although the piece of furniture she had was unique and pretty it wasn’t very functional for holding clothes and I felt a horizontal dresser…

Gersby Bookcase IKEA Hack

Gersby Bookcase IKEA Hack

Hello! I love a good Ikea hack and I’m so excited to share one with you today! I’ve been admiring Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs decorative storage systems for years! via Pottery Barn via Pottery Barn Kids Whether they function to organize shoes and coats and backpacks in an entryway OR toys and crafts in a playroom or craft room it doesn’t matter–I love them all!  I haven’t met one I haven’t liked but I also haven’t met one that I can afford. Unfortunately, these organizing beauties come with a hefty price tag.  The one below was the inspiration for this Ikea hack costing $899 for the set of 3 and $399 for just one compartment! via Ballard Designs Sadly, they are too expensive for me.  Since I already turned my hallway closet into a “mudroom” I don’t need one for the entryway but I’ve been dreaming of a decorative storage system for our basement playroom (and boy does it need one). A Glimpse of our Hallway Closet turned “Mudroom”:-)   In mid-Summer I got a chance to stop by the Ikea…

When James from Homey Improvements contacted me hoping to share a step-by-step guide for painting cabinets with chalk paint my answer was a resounding, heck ya! A Powder Bathroom Makeover for Lolly

A Powder Bathroom Makeover for Lolly

Hello!  I excited to share my friend Lolly’s powder bathroom makeover today.  We started working on it a few weeks ago with the attempts to make it a bit more up-to-date and stylish. Lolly gave me free reigns on the designing front which was fun and she did all the hard work DIY-ing.  I definitely got the long end the stick.:-) So here are the Before and Afters: Before- Looking straight in from the hall After Before After Before After Big change, right?  So what did we do? First thing Lolly did was paint her bathroom walls Valspar Decadent.  I would describe Valspar Decadent as a cream with gray undertones.  We knew painting the walls a lighter color would be important in helping the tight space feel more spacious. Next Lolly moved her towel bar from the back wall to the side wall as it made more sense to have it closer to the sink.  But before re-installing we gave it a new chrome metallic sheen with the same spray paint used on the DIY mirror.     Then Lolly painted her cabinets Behr Liquid Mercury which definitely…

Is Gray Here to Stay?

Is Gray Here to Stay?

Initially you may have thought the title would be referring to the gray skies of winter.  Believe sometimes living in Ohio I begin to wonder if gray is here to stay, like forever!  Thankfully it’s not (although I did look it up and 67% of winter days are cloudy in Ohio)! But instead I am referring to the gray color trend that has swept the nation and beyond in the use of home décor accents galore.   JB Architecture Group, Inc. via Houzz Recently my fellow DIY loving friend, Cindy, painted her kitchen cabinets gray. They look amazing, don’t they!? After showing them to me, Cindy, confided that she harbored concerns about her choice of color. What if the gray trend dies out soon and if I go to sell a few years down the road the cabinets cause problems for potential buyers? Her question got me thinking, is the gray surge just a trend or is it here to stay? The gray trend started about 5 years ago. Initially it began on walls, then in accents of rugs and pillows, then on furniture in upholstered chairs and couches, and in the past…

How to Paint a Bathroom Vanity like a Professional

How to Paint a Bathroom Vanity like a Professional

Hello!  Today I’m here to teach you how to paint a bathroom cabinet/vanity like a pro! I just completed my kid’s bathroom vanity and I am so happy with how it turned out. This was my 5th bathroom vanity that I have painted and I have finally found a product and system that completely rocks! This was by far the best experience and since practice makes perfect better I want to save you the trouble of doing it the less effective ways and allow you opportunity to get the outcome you desire the first time you try! For years I have been trying to find a paint product that gives the look, feel, and durability of being professionally done. I’ve wanted a smooth, glossy, no brush mark look and a smooth, hard enameled feel. I have experimented with lots and lots of paints products and methods but I never felt any of them were “the one”. So, guys, I have found “the ONE” (and no this post is not sponsored in any shape or form)…
