New Build Update- Cabinets are in!

Hello!  I hope you are doing well!  It’s been a whirlwind these past few weeks trying to get our current house ready to be put on the market!  It goes on the MLS next week–wish us luck!

Our new build is coming along slowly but surely.  One of my loyal readers asked if I think we’ll be in our new home before Christmas and I have to say that I am wondering the same thing!:-)  My builder gave me a guesstimate of between December 6th and December 27th but who knows for sure.

I’m just hoping to be in before the New Year!

Now to catch you up with what has been happening in the past couple weeks in the house we are building.

Most of the cabinets have been installed!

This is the blue gray cabinet in our boys shared bathroom (there is another vanity across from it).  Since I took this picture the tile guys have started to tile in this bathroom and my daughter’s bathroom!

Here are the cabinets installed so far in our master bathroom.

And our shower is all ready for tile.

With this marble tile to be exact!  The larger  tiles will go on the floor and the smaller ones will go on the shower wall and bench.

Here is our kitchen so far.  It is of course missing a large hood and the appliances and quite a few other things but it’s a good start!

The trim guys have also been working on closets.  This is the master closet so far.

I’ve added shelves in all of my kids closets too.  Their rooms aren’t big so I’m hoping the shelves will take the place of a dresser in their rooms.

The trim guys have been busy installing baseboards, window casings, and crown molding.  I love how the crown molding inside the coffered ceiling turned out!

They recently added wood to the stairs. I can’t wait for them to add railings and balusters because it makes me so nervous for there not to be anything on the ‘catwalk’ upstairs (see above picture).

Not a lot has happened on the exterior.  They did frame out and gravel the driveway and walkway as well as the step up to the porch.

Next week they are suppose to start painting the exterior!  I am going with white but I haven’t narrowed down the exact white paint color.  Any suggestions?

Once all of the trim work is done they will start painting the interior.  I pretty sure the countertops will be coming within the next couple of weeks as well.  Then comes the mechanicals, lights, appliances, and then the flooring.

Whew, a lot needs to happen within the next couple of months!  Please cross your fingers for us that we can get in before the New Year (and that we can sell our current home)!?

I would say this past week has been one of the most stressful in this process!  This is where I’ve had to remind myself of the first part of the Serenity Prayer that hung in my grandma’s bathroom, ‘God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can;  And wisdom to know the difference’.

I could drive myself crazy the next couple of months trying to control what happens on both home fronts yet a lot of it is out of my control.  So I’m going to try to look on as active viewer with no expectations–just excited to see what happens next in this adventure.

And if it is anything like when we bought our current house (you can read the story HERE) it will all work out in the end.

I hope you have enjoyed this update and that you have a wonderful weekend!!

Til next time!

So from east coast to west coast here on Vancouver Island,BC, Canada we both had similar crazy house issue weeks. My current house has been up for sale for 4 months and this wk we talked to our realtor who simply tells us the house won’t sell st the list price so drop it by $500,000. WHat – well since she doesn’t want to work hard to find us a buyer we gave her the pink slip.

My new house has started being framed and well panic is the best description of my state of mind.

Yr grandma’s saying is just another reminder that life is not controlled by us. But all the anxiety is helping me shed pounds so I can find a slice of good in all the negatives.

Love reading yr stories – house looks so huge!!!! Hang in there sister

? lots of tears but maybe one day I can stop worrying. Think my build is done in April.

Oh, Derah, that does sound stressful! I am glad you are going to find another realtor who IS willing to work hard to help you sell your house! I will pray that your house can sell soon so that you can enjoy the building process more! Keep me updated!!:-)

I love all your millwork. What white did you use on kitchen cabinetry and what back splash tile? We just selected London Sky countertops. Very beautiful selections.
