A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!!  I’m excited to share a budget bedroom makeover today, one I helped design for my friend’s 14 year old daughter, Zoe. Zoe is the youngest of four kids and the only one at home now.  The room we redid use to be her brothers. Zoe wanted her new bedroom to feel sophisticated and beautiful and have a subtle coastal vibe (she is 14 going on 28 no teeny-bopper bedroom here). Here is the BEFORE of the bedroom.     And the AFTER!   The paint color we painted her room is Benjamin Moore Ocean Air and made a huge difference in the space.  Equally important was that they painted all of the trim white (it use to be oak) and added white casing trim around the windows. This part of the makeover was only around $50 and made the largest impact (I love the power of paint)!!   The next most important change we made was how the furniture was laid out.  We took out the large…

Decorating 101- How to Create a Mood Board

Decorating 101- How to Create a Mood Board

Hello!  I hope you had a great week!  This week I’ve started putting together an inspiration board (or mood board) for my upcoming laundry room makeover. If you aren’t familiar with what a mood board is– it is basically pulling pictures, paint colors, flooring samples, tile samples, furniture pieces etc. together in one spot to see how they all look in unison and to gain a clear vision for where your space is going. You can do this with actual physical materials or you can use the computer to get a virtual representation. Here are some examples of both kinds of mood boards   Real Life via Studio Mcgee via Studio Mcgee   Virtual via Young House Love via Young House Love Mood boards are fairly simple to make. 3 Steps to Creating a Mood Board 1. Search for Inspiration.  Pinterest and Houzz are great free resources for decorating inspiration.  I have Pinterest boards for each type of room in the house and when I find a space I like I pin it to that…

Going Coastal

Going Coastal

Hello!  I hope it’s been a great week for everyone!  I can’t believe next week will officially be Summer and that half of 2016 is almost over (time is flying)!! As I mentioned in my post on Finding your Unique Decorating Style one of the styles I love incorporating into my own home is the coastal style.  Whether you want to add elements of coastal decor all year long or just for the Summer this post will give you ideas (and lot of eye candy) on how to the achieve the look without going overboard (no pun intended).:-D Here are 5 Tips for Decorating Coastal Style (I’ve included some affiliate links for your convenience). 1. Blue.  The color blue in all variations almost always presents itself in coastal decor (soft blues, green-blues, and navy blues are most popularly used).  This definitely doesn’t mean the wall color has to be blue!  Blue can show up anywhere in decor such as; upholstered armchairs,  rugs, drapes, wall art, pillows, painted island or cabinet, etc. 2. Stripes.  The pattern of stripes…

A Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover for Lolly

A Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover for Lolly

I’m excited to share Lolly’s bedroom makeover today!  Lolly is a friend who I’ve been helping makeover her house one room at a time. We started with the Powder Bathroom, then the Laundry Room, and now her Master Bedroom.  All of these makeovers have been done on a budget! I do the interior design planning and Lolly does most of the DIY.  It has been fun for me to see how her hard work has been paying off!! Here are the before shots.         And now the After!               There are several ways we saved money on this makeover.  To begin, the drapes were only $5 per a”panel” (they are made from flat sheets).  Hanging them 2-4 inches from the ceiling is a trick to making drapes look more expensive and the ceiling appear taller!     Lolly bought the bench at a stager’s sale for only $45 and the chandelier at a garage sale for $10.  It was super brassy.   We spray painted the…

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!  This week I’m excited to share my youngest son’s “big boy” room makeover reveal!  My son is almost three years old and was ready to move from his crib to a big boy bed!  Can you tell he is proud of his new big boy room (or maybe he is just wondering if Mom is ever going to stop taking pictures of his room)?:-)   As a reminder below was his bedroom as a nursery.   And here is a photo of the bedroom before we moved in.   And here is the now!   The bed was free from a friend who was moving and didn’t want to take it.  It sat in my basement for a couple of years until we were ready to use it.   It had some screws showing and was kind of plain so I decided dress it up with some DIY faux drawer fronts.   I think it gives it a much more “expensive” look.   The knitted blanket at…

The Look for A Lot Less #2

The Look for A Lot Less #2

Hello!  How are you doing?  I hope well!!  I’ve been slowly moving along on several projects (living room, dining room, upstairs hallway, and my master bathroom).  To say I have project adhd is well, pretty much accurate!:-/ As I’ve been working on several room makeovers and updates I’ve come across some examples of getting “The Look” for less.  I wanted to pass them along to you today in case you could benefit from these deals as well as to demonstrate that a beautiful home doesn’t have to be expensive!   1.  First, last weekend we changed out our large hollywood light for two vanity lights (“how to” post to come) in our master bathroom.  Since I would be buying (2) vanity light fixtures I wanted to make sure I found a light for a good price.  After some hunting I found this Hampton Bay 3-light Fixture for only $29   The one shown above is brushed nickel but I got ours in chrome (a sneak peak below…sorry for the bad iPad picture).   It looks…

21 Clever Home Decor Projects Made with Fabric

Hello!  Last week I shared with you some of my go-to places for finding inexpensive, attractive home decor fabric (if you missed it you can find it, Here)!  As promised, this week I am back with a comprehensive list of home decor projects you can create with FABRIC! If you are not a sew-er that’s okay many of these projects do not require sewing and the one’s that do I made sure the tutorials were very thorough and easy to follow. So let’s begin!! 21 Home Decor Projects Made with Fabric 1. Roman Shades-  I found this tutorial for roman shades several years ago, before I had a blog.  When we first moved into our home and I was trying to make the cherry cabinets work.   I thought maybe some light colored window fabric shades would balance the dark wood cabinets out nicely. I used this tutorial and the roman shades turned out great!  However, I ended up not liking them for the space (and painting the cabinets white) and gave them to a…

Budget-Friendly Home Decor Fabric

Budget-Friendly Home Decor Fabric

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week so far!  I’ve busy working away on my home goals for the New Year.  This week I’ve been installing “crown molding” trim in the foyer and hallway and I’m getting excited about how the space is taking shape! Here is a little sneak peek! Today I want to share with you where I go to find budget-friendly home decor fabric! If you follow my fabric board on Pinterest you may already know I have a slight obsession with fabric.:-)  When a fabric speaks to me I can’t help but speak back and it usually is something like “Hey baby, I want you”! Don’t know why I have this connection with fabric but I can’t deny it.:-)  So, basically i just try to stay away from it, unless I have a project that calls for fabric (it truly is a blessing I’m so practical/thrifty or I could easily become a fabricaholic)! So what do I consider a good price per yard for home decor fabric?  My frugally-minded self…

Easy Dresser Makeover + Progress in the Bedroom

Easy Dresser Makeover + Progress in the Bedroom

Hello! Today I want share an easy way to makeover an outdated dresser. Distressed furniture continues to be a popular trend which is good for us because it makes re-doing a dresser even that much easier! Here is the dresser that inspired this furniture makeover. via Pottery Barn Side Note:  And if you like the mirror above the dresser I have a knockoff version that happens to be featured on the Better Homes and Gardens website (insert excited, nerdy squeal).  You can view it, HERE. 🙂 And back to the dresser notice how a warm wood tone shows through on the legs of the dresser.  If you are able to look even closer you will see that wood peeks through slightly on the drawer fronts as well. I have been helping my friend re-do her master bedroom.  This past week we focused on the wall across from her bed that needed redecorating. Although the piece of furniture she had was unique and pretty it wasn’t very functional for holding clothes and I felt a horizontal dresser…
