Beautiful Upholstered Headboard and Nailhead Trim Tutorial

Beautiful Upholstered Headboard and Nailhead Trim Tutorial

This past week I made a new headboard for my bed (as shown below)  and believe it or not it only cost $65 to make! My husband and I had been going headboardless for over 6 months (I know, audible gasp)!:-) There’s a backstory (if you don’t like backstories, no hard feelings, you can skim down to the section How to Make it ).  It all started when my husband and I began waking up achey and not fully rested.  It took a couple of weeks for us to realize that our once comfy, Deep Sleep Serta bed was no longer so comfy. It was our first purchase together as a newly married couple 12 years ago (a $400 steal at Macy’s) and we sadly realized it was time to move on to a bigger and better bed. After a ton of research on my part (I’m the researcher in the family) we decided on THIS gel memory foam mattress in soft and are back to sleeping like babies (the sound sleeping babies not the ones…

38 Go-To Paint Colors for Your Home!

38 Go-To Paint Colors for Your Home!

The past several months I’ve been compiling a list of paint colors that I would call the best Go-To-Paint Colors around right now (and likely for very many years to come). I wanted to give you the cliffs notes version to paint colors!  Sometimes the number of paint color options can be enough to make your head spin (in rainbow colors)! It might sound easy enough to pick a paint color but then you have a billion different hues with a billion different undertones and intensities.  It makes me feel anxious just talking about it.:-) This post is meant to help save you time and headaches from paint color option paralysis by giving you 38 tried and true beautiful paint colors to begin with rather than millions! I hope it helps!!  Please feel free to ask questions and if you want to share your favorite go-to paint colors in the comment section I would love to hear them!   38 Beautiful Go-To Paint Colors WHITE 1 Behr Pure White–  This is what I use for all of my trim,…

Beat up Table Turned Beautiful Farmhouse Table

Beat up Table Turned Beautiful Farmhouse Table

I recently helped my friend, Heather, transform her beat up kitchen table into a beautiful farmhouse table.  Her 13 year old daughter is obsessed with the Fixer Upper show and Joanna Gaine’s style.  She asked if I would help her daughter with a project she had found on Pinterest where Diana from Our Vintage Home Love had taken off the top of their existing table and replaced it with a farmhouse-styled top. \ via Our Vintage Home Love My friend, Heather, had a sturdy table with beautiful legs but the tabletop had taken a beating over the years with four young kids. With all of the screws under her table we thought for sure it meant we would be able to remove the tabletop however after taking a good looksy underneath we realized the top was going nowhere! As I was thinking about what to do the idea came to me…why don’t don’t we just install the wood planks right over the existing table top! So that’s exactly what we did! Before And the Afters…

How to Replace a Hollywood Light with 2 Vanity Lights & How to Patch a Hole in the Wall like a Pro

How to Replace a Hollywood Light with 2 Vanity Lights & How to Patch a Hole in the Wall like a Pro

In homes built across America the builder-basic bathroom vanity light consists of a light coined, the “hollywood light”. Although they give off a great amount of light they aren’t what I would call elegant or stylish!  When trying to achieve the look of the following bathrooms you can imagine how the “hollywood light” would get in the way of getting the same look!   Legacy CDM Inc. via Houzz Veranda Interiors via decorpad via BHG For the past 4 years (since we moved into our house) we have had a large 8 bulb hollywood light in our master bathroom that has been a bit of an eyesore. I made sure our hollywood light didn’t show up in my home tour because I felt like it ruined the look (sneaky, I know).:-)   As I mentioned in a previous post I found some pretty Pottery Barn look-a-like vanity lights at Home Depot for just $29.99 a piece.  I really didn’t want to have to pay an electrician $200+ to change the hollywood light into two over the…

Home Decorating Goals for the New Year!

Home Decorating Goals for the New Year!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that you’ve had some time off to relax and recuperate from the Holiday hustle. Each year as the New Year approaches I get excited about setting goals.  I try to focus on setting just a few goals that I feel would be most beneficial. I also try to make sure the goals are realistic and something I REALLY want, not just something I want but am not really willing to work for. Being a DIY blogger I make both blog goals and home goals.  One of main blog goals for 2016 is to help you create a beautiful home on a budget! I need your help in accomplishing this goal!  Would you be willing to answer a quick 6 question survey at the end of this post?  It would really mean a lot!!!   Last year I wrote a post about my home goals for 2015.  I thought you might want to see how I did, as well as my home goals for 2016!   Living room…

ORC Week 2 & Decorative Storage Solution

ORC Week 2 & Decorative Storage Solution

Hello! I hope you’ve had a great week! I’ve been busy this week working on my downstairs rec/playroom and my family room. This is Week 2 of the One Room Challenge (ORC). If you are unfamiliar with the challenge you  can learn about it, HERE. As a refresher, here is the before shot of the downstairs (before we moved in).   Once we moved in I took off the red baseboards right away but didn’t do anything else to the space to improve it (home improvements on the rest of the house took precedence).     In the attempt to lighten the space up I have painted 3 out of the 4 walls Valspar Del Tequila Cornado which is a pretty off-white, cream color (My master bedroom is painted the same color).       Yes, you are seeing cords hanging out of the ceiling in the above photo.  I will explain next week.;-)   I like how the lighter color has brightened the space!  I painted the accent wall in Behr Melting Moments. Here…

Laundry Makeover Gone Glam

Laundry Makeover Gone Glam

You may remember when I helped my friend, Lolly, makeover her powder bathroom (if not see post, Here).   Well, we’ve been at it again!  This time re-working her laundry room. Her laundry room was somewhat functional with an IKEA wall shelf but she felt she needed more storage space… and didn’t like twisting to hang things up on the side wall.  She preferred to have her storage and hanging rod above the washer and dryer and her laundry and dog supplies behind closed doors. Additionally, it was evident to me that we needed to create a more space efficient and aesthetically pleasing dog feeding system. All this while infusing Lolly’s desired style of decorating coined, “rustic glam”.  I’m happy to say we achieved all of the above criteria!! Here is Lolly’s new and improved laundry room!  What do you think?? Even her sweet K9, Cole, seems pleased with the transformation.:-) So what did we (I did the designing work and she and her hubby did the DIY work) do? First she added board and batten to 3 walls of the room (tutorial to…

Powder Bathroom Makeover Reveal

Wahooo, it’s time to do some revealing!!! Of my main floor bathroom that is! I started this makeover about 5 weeks ago. It feels like it has been dragging on forever! I find some makeovers and projects come together quickly and others like to unravel painfully slow. This one was the painfully slow kind (which is not so kind). The primary reason for such a slow pace was that I struggled catching a vision for the room. I knew I was going for an elegant bathroom.   And I knew I wanted to add this kind of tiling.    Design Cube Inc. via Houzz   And to incorporate a DIY version of these paintings via Ballard Designs   And to get the feel of this bathroom Alexandra Luhrs Interior Design via Houzz   But as far a putting it all together it took awhile to figure out! So without further adieu here it is–   BEFORE (minus the chair rail)   AFTERS           What did I add and how much did it cost???  …
