A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!!  I’m excited to share a budget bedroom makeover today, one I helped design for my friend’s 14 year old daughter, Zoe. Zoe is the youngest of four kids and the only one at home now.  The room we redid use to be her brothers. Zoe wanted her new bedroom to feel sophisticated and beautiful and have a subtle coastal vibe (she is 14 going on 28 no teeny-bopper bedroom here). Here is the BEFORE of the bedroom.     And the AFTER!   The paint color we painted her room is Benjamin Moore Ocean Air and made a huge difference in the space.  Equally important was that they painted all of the trim white (it use to be oak) and added white casing trim around the windows. This part of the makeover was only around $50 and made the largest impact (I love the power of paint)!!   The next most important change we made was how the furniture was laid out.  We took out the large…

BIA Parade of Homes Preview & What’s Trending Right Now

BIA Parade of Homes Preview & What’s Trending Right Now

I look forward to our local Parade of Homes every year and this year is no exception (16 builders are participating this year so lots to see)!  You can imagine my excitement when I got invited to attend the media tour of the Parade a month before it is opened to the public (it opens to the public September 3rd- September 17th). I had so much fun touring the homes that I wanted to share the experience with you!  You will see in the pictures that the homes were in varying stages of readiness.  Some homes were fully decorated (most weren’t yet) while others were still drywalling and installing flooring. I think it was pretty neat to see it in progress because it made the bones and architectural details of the home stand out even more. I will be sure to point out some of the common trends I saw amongst the homes. Let’s begin with my two favorite exteriors!  The contrast between light and dark colors really makes them pop.   Two cool ceiling features!…

38 Go-To Paint Colors for Your Home!

38 Go-To Paint Colors for Your Home!

The past several months I’ve been compiling a list of paint colors that I would call the best Go-To-Paint Colors around right now (and likely for very many years to come). I wanted to give you the cliffs notes version to paint colors!  Sometimes the number of paint color options can be enough to make your head spin (in rainbow colors)! It might sound easy enough to pick a paint color but then you have a billion different hues with a billion different undertones and intensities.  It makes me feel anxious just talking about it.:-) This post is meant to help save you time and headaches from paint color option paralysis by giving you 38 tried and true beautiful paint colors to begin with rather than millions! I hope it helps!!  Please feel free to ask questions and if you want to share your favorite go-to paint colors in the comment section I would love to hear them!   38 Beautiful Go-To Paint Colors WHITE 1 Behr Pure White–  This is what I use for all of my trim,…

DIY Orb Ceiling Light Fixture

DIY Orb Ceiling Light Fixture

Hi guys!  Today I’m going to show you how I made the silver orb ceiling light for my sons bedroom makeover.   I’ve been a sucker for orb lights for a couple of years now.    This beauty was one that I fell in love with a couple of years ago when at a wedding reception.   Orbs are especially a great option in rooms that have a lot of linear lines like boxes and stripes.  The circular shape provide a nice contrast but is still clean and crisp. My friend Erin suggested the light below for my son’s recent bedroom makeover and I instantly loved it.  It is from Shades of Light.  The cost is $159 which is not horrible and I considered buying it for a little while. via Shades of Light   But the more I thought about it the more I became pretty confident that I could DIY something like it for a lot less. For the light part I used an old pendant (similar to the one below) that I…

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!  This week I’m excited to share my youngest son’s “big boy” room makeover reveal!  My son is almost three years old and was ready to move from his crib to a big boy bed!  Can you tell he is proud of his new big boy room (or maybe he is just wondering if Mom is ever going to stop taking pictures of his room)?:-)   As a reminder below was his bedroom as a nursery.   And here is a photo of the bedroom before we moved in.   And here is the now!   The bed was free from a friend who was moving and didn’t want to take it.  It sat in my basement for a couple of years until we were ready to use it.   It had some screws showing and was kind of plain so I decided dress it up with some DIY faux drawer fronts.   I think it gives it a much more “expensive” look.   The knitted blanket at…

Budget-Friendly Home Decor Fabric

Budget-Friendly Home Decor Fabric

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week so far!  I’ve busy working away on my home goals for the New Year.  This week I’ve been installing “crown molding” trim in the foyer and hallway and I’m getting excited about how the space is taking shape! Here is a little sneak peek! Today I want to share with you where I go to find budget-friendly home decor fabric! If you follow my fabric board on Pinterest you may already know I have a slight obsession with fabric.:-)  When a fabric speaks to me I can’t help but speak back and it usually is something like “Hey baby, I want you”! Don’t know why I have this connection with fabric but I can’t deny it.:-)  So, basically i just try to stay away from it, unless I have a project that calls for fabric (it truly is a blessing I’m so practical/thrifty or I could easily become a fabricaholic)! So what do I consider a good price per yard for home decor fabric?  My frugally-minded self…

Free Abstract Art Printables (and Week 5 ORC Update)

Free Abstract Art Printables (and Week 5 ORC Update)

For those who are new to the blog I’ve spent the past 5 weeks remodeling our basement rec room/playroom as a participant of the One Room Challenge. I can’t believe we only have one week left!!  So far I’ve painted the walls, repurposed some diaper boxes, built a wall storage system, shiplapped a wall, reupholstered an ottoman, created some “I love you” wall art, and made 2 large pillows. This week was another busy week.  First, we hired someone to fix the electrical problem we had downstairs and to install 6 cans lights in addition to the florescent tube lighting we already have (yay, for more light in the basement!!!) After that was completed a friend and I installed 4 wide beadboard panels onto the ceiling.  I still need to patch holes and do A LOT of trim work and painting to make it look beautiful but beautiful the ceiling will look!!   The hanging chairs I mentioned ordering in the last post arrived and they are now hung (the kids are already enjoying them…and I may or…

Easiest Ottoman Slipcover Ever (and ORC Week 4 Update)

Easiest Ottoman Slipcover Ever (and ORC Week 4 Update)

Hello!  How was your week?  It’s been busy here.  I have some littles who are excited out of their mind for Halloween.  Tonight is their trick or treat night and I still have a little bit left to pull together for their costumes (this year we have a skeleton, army soldier, tinkerbell, and a puppy). This week I’ve been plugging away on the basement playroom makeover and have been able to get a few projects completed. First, I made this cute, large “I love you” wall art (tutorial to come) inspired by an “I love you” sign I spotted on Pottery Barn Kids. I also ordered some “hanging chairs” for the room for only $24.99 each.  There was a time in my childhood (I think I was around 10) where my older sister and I would use graph paper to design our dream rooms.  I remember mine had steps in it so that the room had different levels and it always had a swing.:-) via Ebay Although this is by no means a swing (the wall will be right behind…

Gersby Bookcase IKEA Hack

Gersby Bookcase IKEA Hack

Hello! I love a good Ikea hack and I’m so excited to share one with you today! I’ve been admiring Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs decorative storage systems for years! via Pottery Barn via Pottery Barn Kids Whether they function to organize shoes and coats and backpacks in an entryway OR toys and crafts in a playroom or craft room it doesn’t matter–I love them all!  I haven’t met one I haven’t liked but I also haven’t met one that I can afford. Unfortunately, these organizing beauties come with a hefty price tag.  The one below was the inspiration for this Ikea hack costing $899 for the set of 3 and $399 for just one compartment! via Ballard Designs Sadly, they are too expensive for me.  Since I already turned my hallway closet into a “mudroom” I don’t need one for the entryway but I’ve been dreaming of a decorative storage system for our basement playroom (and boy does it need one). A Glimpse of our Hallway Closet turned “Mudroom”:-)   In mid-Summer I got a chance to stop by the Ikea…
