Designer Spotlight- Kelly Nutt Design

Designer Spotlight- Kelly Nutt Design

First of all I wanted to thank everyone who commented on my last post about what paint color palette would look best on my home’s exterior!  Your comments were super helpful and much appreciated!!:-) A few years back I had a little series going where I spotlighted the work of my favorite interior designers.  I did maybe 3 of them and then poof just like the latest kid’s trend (think silly bands, rainbow loom bracelets, soon fidget spinners) my designer spotlight series was gone. I’m not even sure why.   It must have been one of my notorious brain farts (I’m really good at those…not to brag or anything).:-) Well, over the past month or so the work of interior designer, Kelly Nutt Design, has caught my eye on Instagram (you can join me on Instagram HERE)!   Her style is best described as overall traditional with a definite light and airy emphasis and she has a serious knack for creating spaces that are both relaxed and sophisticated–not an easy feat See for yourself! How to Paint a Gray Weathered Finish on Furniture

How to Paint a Gray Weathered Finish on Furniture

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!  Today I’m looking forward to sharing an easy way to update or change the appearance of undesirable or outdated wood furniture. I’ve noticed that gray weathered wood furniture has become very popular as of late! via Target A friend/client recently asked me to help her refresh her family room.  As part of the refresh she bought THIS Storage Cube Organizer (affiliate link) to replace a too small console with no storage. It’s from Amazon for $83. Since the console had a gray weathered finish we decided in order to tie room together that it would be great if the end tables on each side of her couch could have the same finish. Her current end tables had an orange-y oak top and an rubbed oil bronze iron base.  To save money (and because I love making over furniture) I suggested we try to re-frinish the tops of the end tables in the gray weathered finish and she agreed! Here is the BEFORE: And now the AFTER: This took…

24 Arm Chairs Under $250

24 Arm Chairs Under $250

Hello! I wanted to pop in before the weekend ended and share some of my favorite arm chairs for under $250. As part of my upcoming master bedroom makeover I plan to add two identical arm chairs (auto correct changed it to arm hairs):-) to the room. Nice sturdy arm chairs are usually a good $500 plus so two could cost you over $1000! I don’t have that kind of money to spend of chairs right now so here are some less expensive options that caught my eye. Note: About 90% of the chairs below come in several different color options so if you like the shape of the chair click on it and you should be able to see what other colors it comes in.   Click directly on the picture of the chair you like to see it’s price and info! (Disclosure-  Any chairs linked to Amazon are affiliate links meaning I receive a very small percentage of the sale if you purchase from my link.  Thanks!)     I’ll be back next…

DIY Floating Bench

DIY Floating Bench

Hello!  I hope you doing well!  Last week I got in the mood to clean out my kids’ closets (all four of them) . It’s not something I get in the mood to do very often so I took advantage of this rare feeling and spent quite some time going through all of their clothes– putting aside clothes that don’t fit, have stains, or aren’t ever worn and organizing like a mad woman. It feels so good to have their closets organized again (we’ll see how long it lasts)! A couple of months ago I shared a bedroom makeover I helped design for my friend’s daughter.   One of the most fun parts of the makeover was creating a reading nook by adding a custom “floating” bench.  My friend’s handy husband built the bench for around $100.  Here are the steps he took to build the bench!   How to DIY a “Floating” Bench  Determine where you want the bench to go.  This was the perfect empty space for a little reading nook.  They did not remove…

A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

A Beautiful Bedroom Makeover for Zoe

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!!  I’m excited to share a budget bedroom makeover today, one I helped design for my friend’s 14 year old daughter, Zoe. Zoe is the youngest of four kids and the only one at home now.  The room we redid use to be her brothers. Zoe wanted her new bedroom to feel sophisticated and beautiful and have a subtle coastal vibe (she is 14 going on 28 no teeny-bopper bedroom here). Here is the BEFORE of the bedroom.     And the AFTER!   The paint color we painted her room is Benjamin Moore Ocean Air and made a huge difference in the space.  Equally important was that they painted all of the trim white (it use to be oak) and added white casing trim around the windows. This part of the makeover was only around $50 and made the largest impact (I love the power of paint)!!   The next most important change we made was how the furniture was laid out.  We took out the large…

Outdoor Bench Makeover & Best $15 Sander Around

Outdoor Bench Makeover & Best $15 Sander Around

I had all intentions of writing and sharing this post last week and then life happened (namely the stomach flu, sinus problems, writing a post for another website, 4 kids, a puppy, and a kitten).  At last I am here and I truly appreciate your patience!:-) (The kitten is the easy one). Today I’m sharing a trash to treasure makeover.  It all began on a sunny afternoon as I was walking (or was the puppy walking me?) to the bus stop to gather my children off the bus.  As I got closer to the bus stop I noticed a neighbor (the dad of my son’s friend) carrying a leprous bench to the side of the road. Knowing that trash day was the next day I asked him if he was getting rid off it (always best to make sure in order to avoid an awkward situation).:-) He said yes and so I asked if I could take it and fix it up.  He answered in the affirmative and was even kind enough to carry it…

Decorating 101- How to Create a Mood Board

Decorating 101- How to Create a Mood Board

Hello!  I hope you had a great week!  This week I’ve started putting together an inspiration board (or mood board) for my upcoming laundry room makeover. If you aren’t familiar with what a mood board is– it is basically pulling pictures, paint colors, flooring samples, tile samples, furniture pieces etc. together in one spot to see how they all look in unison and to gain a clear vision for where your space is going. You can do this with actual physical materials or you can use the computer to get a virtual representation. Here are some examples of both kinds of mood boards   Real Life via Studio Mcgee via Studio Mcgee   Virtual via Young House Love via Young House Love Mood boards are fairly simple to make. 3 Steps to Creating a Mood Board 1. Search for Inspiration.  Pinterest and Houzz are great free resources for decorating inspiration.  I have Pinterest boards for each type of room in the house and when I find a space I like I pin it to that…

My Living Room Makeover Reveal!

My Living Room Makeover Reveal!

Hello!  I think I’m as ready as I’m going to be to share my living room makeover.  I truly believe there is no one way to decorate just A LOT of varying styles and opinions so you really can’t go too wrong if YOU love it. BUT I have to admit I’m human and sometimes I worry too much if my photos are “good enough” or if you will completely hate the way I decorated my home. It helps me to remember that even if you aren’t loving what I did with a certain space that you will at least hopefully be inspired by the money saving ideas I share. So… before we moved into our house and a few years after, our living room was the dining room.  After living in our home for a few years it dawned on me that (because of the location and shape) our dining room would make more sense at a living room and vice versa! Here is the dining room before we moved in.   And here it…
