Come and Knock on My Door

Come and Knock on My Door

Hello!  I just wanted to pop in today to share a little DIY post.  With Fall close upon us time is running out for outdoor updates to the home. I recently noticed that our front door was looking pretty faded and needed a paint refresh. I am very happy with the result and was pleasantly surprised with how quick and inexpensive this project was (like as in 15 minutes and for $15)! Here is the Before.  It was so faded that our black door almost looked navy blue     And the After.  So let’s talk paint.  I was very concerned about getting a true black color and something that would hold up to all outdoor weather conditions.  When I spotted THIS Gloss Black Enamel at Home Depot for only $8 I knew it would be worth a try! And I’m so glad I did!  The pictures don’t do it justice at all.  It is a beautiful glossy black and it comes in several other beautiful colors too!   We’ve gotten a lot of compliments…

Taking Stairs from Carpeted to Stained Hardwood

Taking Stairs from Carpeted to Stained Hardwood

Hello! I’ve been excited to share this tutorial with you because it has made such a big impact in my own home and for under $100! My stairway to the upstairs is the first thing you see when you come into our house. When we moved here it had the builder-basic carpet stairs with oak railings.  This isn’t an awful look but it wasn’t what I was hoping for. BEFORE   The first thing I did was paint the hand railings dark espresso and the railings white  (HERE is the tutorial on how to do this step which is SO worth it IMHO)!   PROGRESS     Next I got so disgusted with the carpet  on my stairs that never seemed to look clean no matter how much I cleaned it that one day I just started pulling it up (I’m not an impulsive person but once in awhile when it comes to home projects it happens).:-) My youngest was around 1 years old at the time so I still wanted some padding on the…

My Living Room Makeover Reveal!

My Living Room Makeover Reveal!

Hello!  I think I’m as ready as I’m going to be to share my living room makeover.  I truly believe there is no one way to decorate just A LOT of varying styles and opinions so you really can’t go too wrong if YOU love it. BUT I have to admit I’m human and sometimes I worry too much if my photos are “good enough” or if you will completely hate the way I decorated my home. It helps me to remember that even if you aren’t loving what I did with a certain space that you will at least hopefully be inspired by the money saving ideas I share. So… before we moved into our house and a few years after, our living room was the dining room.  After living in our home for a few years it dawned on me that (because of the location and shape) our dining room would make more sense at a living room and vice versa! Here is the dining room before we moved in.   And here it…

The Look for Less- My 5 Most Recent Home Decor Deals!

The Look for Less- My 5 Most Recent Home Decor Deals!

For today’s post I’ve gathered up some of the recent deals I’ve found online for my home and wanted to share them with you! So without further ado! 1. Kitchen Faucet.  When we got our new countertops it came with an undermount sink.  I was planning on using the faucet we already had from the old sink but when we removed we found some crud and mold around the inside of it’s base. I had gotten the old cast iron sink and faucet from Craigslist and there was no telling how old they were.  After finding the crud we felt it was time for a new faucet especially since it would be sitting directly on the the marble countertops! I did tons of research for the new faucet.  I wanted the best faucet for the best price! I loved the goose neck feature of my previous faucet so I knew that was a must as well as a sprayer option and the convenience of one handle   Here was my inspiration faucet from Lowes for $469.…

Why I Chose Marble Countertops & What I’ve Learned

Why I Chose Marble Countertops & What I’ve Learned

After four years of saving I recently got to purchase my dream countertops! But let’s first take a look back at where we started. A little over four years ago we moved into our home with a kitchen that was too dark and contemporary for my taste.   After several inexpensive DIY projects I was able to get our  kitchen to a point that felt light, bright, and airy (the way I like it).   One of the first projects in our home was replacing our dark laminate kitchen countertops with some light “faux stone” IKEA countertops.  They have held up pretty well with just a couple of small light stains.  They were super inexpensive so even though I have only had them for four years they were worth every penny!   But I’ve been in love with the beauty of marble and marble looking countertops for a long time!   And since I knew that the kitchen is a place in the home definitely worth investing in I began saving for them soon after we…

Beat up Table Turned Beautiful Farmhouse Table

Beat up Table Turned Beautiful Farmhouse Table

I recently helped my friend, Heather, transform her beat up kitchen table into a beautiful farmhouse table.  Her 13 year old daughter is obsessed with the Fixer Upper show and Joanna Gaine’s style.  She asked if I would help her daughter with a project she had found on Pinterest where Diana from Our Vintage Home Love had taken off the top of their existing table and replaced it with a farmhouse-styled top. \ via Our Vintage Home Love My friend, Heather, had a sturdy table with beautiful legs but the tabletop had taken a beating over the years with four young kids. With all of the screws under her table we thought for sure it meant we would be able to remove the tabletop however after taking a good looksy underneath we realized the top was going nowhere! As I was thinking about what to do the idea came to me…why don’t don’t we just install the wood planks right over the existing table top! So that’s exactly what we did! Before And the Afters…

A Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover for Lolly

A Beautiful Master Bedroom Makeover for Lolly

I’m excited to share Lolly’s bedroom makeover today!  Lolly is a friend who I’ve been helping makeover her house one room at a time. We started with the Powder Bathroom, then the Laundry Room, and now her Master Bedroom.  All of these makeovers have been done on a budget! I do the interior design planning and Lolly does most of the DIY.  It has been fun for me to see how her hard work has been paying off!! Here are the before shots.         And now the After!               There are several ways we saved money on this makeover.  To begin, the drapes were only $5 per a”panel” (they are made from flat sheets).  Hanging them 2-4 inches from the ceiling is a trick to making drapes look more expensive and the ceiling appear taller!     Lolly bought the bench at a stager’s sale for only $45 and the chandelier at a garage sale for $10.  It was super brassy.   We spray painted the…

The Secret to Painting Tall Walls

The Secret to Painting Tall Walls

Hello!  I hope you all had a great week!  I have my friend, Cindy, here with me today to talk about how to paint extra tall walls! Cindy works as a part-time handy-woman and she is goooood!  In fact I hired her to help me paint my 2 story entryway a couple of months ago. I held the ladder and helped move it around etc. while she was the brave one who climbed the ladder.  Here is a bad phone photo of Cindy helping me paint my 2 story entryway.   Since helping me paint my foyer she has gone on to paint two other 2 story spaces. We worked together to create this tutorial for you on how to paint 2 story (or super tall) walls like a pro! Take it away, Cindy! **************************************************** Everyone loves a beautiful home with tall ceilings and lots of light, but when it comes time for a new paint color those tall ceilings can pose a problem. Most people end up hiring an expensive painter to tackle the…

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Boys Bedroom Makeover Reveal

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great week!  This week I’m excited to share my youngest son’s “big boy” room makeover reveal!  My son is almost three years old and was ready to move from his crib to a big boy bed!  Can you tell he is proud of his new big boy room (or maybe he is just wondering if Mom is ever going to stop taking pictures of his room)?:-)   As a reminder below was his bedroom as a nursery.   And here is a photo of the bedroom before we moved in.   And here is the now!   The bed was free from a friend who was moving and didn’t want to take it.  It sat in my basement for a couple of years until we were ready to use it.   It had some screws showing and was kind of plain so I decided dress it up with some DIY faux drawer fronts.   I think it gives it a much more “expensive” look.   The knitted blanket at…
