A No-Fail Thanksgiving

One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving.  I love being with loved ones, eating good food, and then going into a food comatose  I mean relaxing.:-)  I also love that it is a holiday that focuses on remembering and feeling gratitude for all of the blessings in our lives!

I think it is very easy in our world to lose sight of what we do have and instead focus on what we don’t have.

Just imagine what the world would be like if we were all consistently full of thanks in our hearts.  A much happier and peaceful people and place it would be!

I want you to know that I appreciate you following and reading my blog posts!  I know my blog posts aren’t as often as they once were but that’s just the season my blog is in right now.  Thank you for your patience!:-)

Today I wanted to share with you some of the tried and true Thanksgiving recipes I use year after year.  I call them no-fail recipes because they come out so delicious every single time!

  1.  First is THIS turkey in a bag recipe.  I follow the recipe to exactness except for the past couple of years I’ve also added 1/4 cup of butter under each wing and in the skin of each breast.  The turkey always turns out so nice and moist and has a good flavor.

2.   THIS sweet potato casserole is amazing!  It is so good that it tastes like a dessert.  I follow the recipe exactly except I only put the nuts on half of the casserole (sadly I get migraines from nuts).

3.  THIS green bean casserole is so good!  However, it is important to use fresh green beans instead of the canned green beans it calls for in the recipe.

I buy a little over 2 lbs. of green beans, wash, trim and cut them in half.  Then I steam them by putting them into a saucepan of a 1/2 inch of boiling water. I cover and leave them there for 5 minutes or until it’s the crispness you like.  Then follow the recipe as normal.

In addition to the cracker crumbs on top I like to add some French’s crispy fried onions on top.

4.  I tried THIS apple pie recipe for the first time last Thanksgiving and it was so good!  I am definitely making it again this year!    Not only is it delicious but it is easy to make too!  For the lattice on top I used a ready made pie crust that I dethawed and then cut into 1-1/2 inch slices.  You can find them in the freezer section by the cool whip.

I’ve also attached a printable that I created in photoshop that you can print and use for your Thanksgiving meal!  It can be used as a place card to let people know where  to sit or if you are doing a buffet style you can use them to label what each dish is.

Just click on the blue words “Place Cards Printable” and then print.  You can print on normal printing paper or for a more professional look you can use heavier paper like card stock.

Fold them over and cut them out and they stand up perfectly on their own.
