One Room Challenge- The Master and Girls’ Bedroom Makeover Week 1

Hello!  I hope your week has been going well so far!   This week has flown for me!

Today marks the start of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home.  Each April and October she challenges designers and bloggers to makeover a room in 6 weeks and to share the progress each week in a “link up” on her site.

I participated about a year and a half ago when I made over our basement rec area.

I’ve decided to join in again this round.  And I think I may even try to do two room makeovers at the same time!  Overly ambitious I know but I figure even if I only finish one room at least it will give me the push to have worked on the second room too.

So the first room makeover I’ll be doing is our Master Bedroom.

As you know I’ve been thinking about starting this one for awhile.   I even made a new headboard  for the room several months ago after buying a much taller mattress.

However, I’ve struggled for months trying to figure what direction I wanted to take the room in.  Below is the moodboard I finally came up with that meets our needs both aesthetically and functionally.

I know it’s kind of hard to tell from the picture all that is going  to be happening in the room but I will be sharing the details of each item in the room as I complete them over the next 6 weeks.

Something not represented in the moodboard above is that the gray rug on the right in the picture leads to our “computer area”.

My plan for that area is to paint the desk the same color as the hutch and paint over the stripe wall in Benjamin Moore Classic Gray.

Then I want to add a beam on the ceiling as a way to visually divide the sleeping space part of the bedroom from the computer area and to add more character to the room.

The second room I’ll be working on at the same time is my 6 year old daughter’s room.  Although I still like her room as it is she has had it that way since she was 2 and she’s been begging me for a couple of years for a pink painted room.

Also, functionally the armoire needs go and be replaced by a long dresser that can hold more clothes in a more organized fashion.

So here is the mood board I created for her room.

Space-wise I definitely won’t be able to fit all of these items in her room (like the desk and chair) but I wanted to include them in the moodboard to establish the feel of the room.  I’m going for a non-theme-y pretty, coastal, preppy feel.  We’ll see how it goes.

Well, I sure have A LOT to do so I better get moving on it!:-)  I hope you will enjoy following along as I makeover these spaces!  There will definitely be some good DIY tutorials to share along the way as well!

Also, feel free to check out the other guest participants’ makeovers HERE!!

Have a great rest of your week and thanks for being here!!:-)
