My Living Room Makeover Reveal! -

Hello! I think I’m as ready as I’m going to be to share my living room makeover. I truly believe there is no one way to decorate just A LOT of varying styles and opinions so you really can’t go too wrong if YOU love it.

BUT I have to admit I’m human and sometimes I worry too much if my photos are “good enough” or if you will completely hate the way I decorated my home.

It helps me to remember that even if you aren’t loving what I did with a certain space that you will at least hopefully be inspired by the money saving ideas I share.

So… before we moved into our house and a few years after, our living room was the dining room. After living in our home for a few years it dawned on me that (because of the location and shape) our dining room would make more sense at a living room and vice versa!

Here is the dining room before we moved in.

And here it is now as our living room.

Soon after we moved in I took down the wallpaper. In the process I discover the easiest way to take down wallpaper which I wrote about Here.

I recently took down the chair rail too and painted the entire room Benjamin Moore Simply White. This really made the space feel larger and more open.

It’s been almost 2 years since we installed engineered hardwood floors on much of the main floor and I love it! You can read more about that Here.

I found the two gold shelves in the living room on Craigslist. I bought them for a total of $20 ($10 each).

Their lines reminded me of Ballard Designs beautiful Silvia Etagere.

However, originally they had scrolly gold ivy going up the sides and back of it. I borrowed my friend’s angle grinder and cut them off. Sparks were flying but in the end I achieved the cleaner, streamlined look I was seeking!

The plant pictures on top were $8 a piece at my local Goodwill thrift store. The chinoiserie vases were free from a friend who moved and didn’t want to take them. The rest of the items were thrift store or Homegoods buys.

Now lets move to the north wall where my painted couch resides. The couch use to be brown and frumpy HERE is the tutorial on how I painted and updated it.

I bought the fabric for the accent pillows and made envelope pillow covers out of them. Here are the sources from left to right (affiliate links). The navy chevron fabric can be found Here, I made the navy and white window pane pattern one from a $2 Ikea kitchen towel, the pink fabric you can find Here, and the blue and cream leopard Here.

The magazine holder was a thrift store find. It was ugly and black for $3 but a coat of gold spray paint was all it took to pretty it up–quick and easy!

I did the abstract painting above the couch using the technique I explained Here. You can totally make your own abstract too! It doesn’t require previous talent or experience!

I got the basket from Homegoods for $12 and the gray throw from Ikea for $12 as well.

The seagrass rug is from Ikea and only cost $70. And the faux fur rug was also from IKEA for $12

The coffee table was previously cherry but I spray painted it espresso. I bought it for $20 on Craigslist a few years ago.

The powdery blue arm chair was the splurge of this makeover. It was love at first sight when I spotted it at Homegoods. I brought it home for the very reasonable (but more than I usually spend) price of $250.

I found the leopard accent pillow at a Ballard Designs outlet for $16. And the gold floor lamp is a steal at Target for $40!

The espresso pedestal side table by the navy chair was a DIY I whipped up. It is very easy to make and you don’t necessarily have to have tools to make it. You can check out the tutorial Here.

The navy blue chair was once a yellow striped chair I found on Craigslist for $60. I mixed two small bottles of fabric paint with 3/4 a quart of navy blue wall paint. I sprayed down the chair with water and then painted it. It took just two coats to cover and basically feels and looks like a leather chair!
