Hello! I hope you’ve had a great week!  This was one of those busy weeks for me where pending DIY projects had to be put on hold (Life, how dare you).:-)

But this coming week is looking good for me to be able to install some wood trim in the the hallway.  Hooray!

I’m still debating between two different kinds of wood treatments (normal chair rail wainscoting OR long board and batten boxes).  We’ll see which wins out!

The photo above shows how my 2-story foyer looks all painted up in Benjamin Moore Simply White.   Painting it was an adventure but I’m sure loving the change!!  The arrow indicates where I’ll be doing the wood trimming this week.

Today I thought it would be fun to talk about a color that I don’t speak of very much–Black.

Black is classic.  It is always in style in some shape or form.  To me black exudes feelings of strength, boldness, sophistication, and dependability (and of  course gloominess when it is the only color in the room).

Here are 5 ways I have noticed black trending in design lately–

1.  Black Subway Tile

And I couldn’t help but add this gorgeous exterior with it’s classic black front door and shutters!

5.  Black (and white) Abstract Art

I’ve even seen the black and white abstract art used in traditional styled homes and love it.  Just put it in a more traditional style of frame and it works!

Pottery Barn has the below black and white abstract painting selling for $599!

That’s too much money for me so I whipped up some of my own black and white abstract “paintings” in photoshop elements.  I have added links to four of them if you would like to print them up for your personal use.

Don’t forget you can print huge ones at places like Staples using their “blue print” printers.  It is seriously only $5 a copy!  This would be an very inexpensive way to add some art to your home!

Need some resources for black paint colors?  You can try Benjamin Moore Jet Black, Benjamin Moore Black Ink, or Benjamin Moore Raccoon Fur for a bit lighter shade of black.

So how do you use the color black (or lack of color) in your home?  Do you like any of these black trends?   If so, which ones?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
