I hope you all had a great Christmas! I know Christmas decorating is probably not on your mind right now given it’s already happened BUT if you have any wants on your list for next Christmas (like a new tree or different color schemed ornaments) then seize the day!

Right now most stores will have their Christmas décor items clearanced out the wahzoo–like at least 75% off! Some of my favorite places to shop for the next year’s Christmas are JoAnn’s, Michael’s, and Target. In fact our first Christmas tree was bought at JoAnn’s right after Christmas. It was regularly $200 but I swiped it up for $50! I think I’ll try to get out tomorrow and by some new ornaments since I plan on doing 2 trees next year.

The New Year is a great time to evaluate your life which includes your home and what’s working for you and what’s not! Is there something in your home that is bugging you every time you pass it or a room that needs some tlc? This is a great time to make a list of things you would like to change in your home over the next year.

I usually keep a mental list but I thought for the sake of sharing I would write it down this year (you will of course get all the details on the blog of these projects as they happen).:-)

So here it is!

Home Deocorating Goals for the New Year

1) Redo my living room
-finish couch makeover
-purchase new rug for under $150
-new artwork for behind the couch

2) Entry/Foyer Makeover
-add woodwork
-paint white
-heighten the “mudroom/closet” opening (I will be doing my first wall demolition for this one)!
-add sconces to hallway

3) Finish Media Room/Mancave Makeover
-add artwork or decorative interest on wall behind the TV
-purchase new door with tempered glass panels at Menard’s for $122
-finish organizing bookcase

4) Organize Unfinished Portion of Basement
-get rid of items in storage we no longer use/need

5) Outside
-raise the flower beds
-transplant rose bushes, peony, and one hydrangea bush
-plant perrenials in back flower bed

Optional- If I get around to it this year, beautify the laundry room and the finished portion of the basement.

What is on your list?? I’m a big believer that you can achieve a beautiful home even when on a budget so if there is something on your list you need help brainstorming how to do within your budget let me know…maybe I could give you some ideas!

Also if you need an easy but super impactful project to start with I would recommend adding woodwork above your mantel like I did below.

How to Add a Woodwork Trim Chimneypiece Above a Fireplace Mantel - Provident Home Design featured on @Remodelaholic #budget-friendly

You can read all about it at Remodelholic.com where it was featured today!  This project made such a difference!

I hope you have a Happy New Year! Looking forward to 2015!
