I had fun this past week creating a coastal Christmas tablescape. It’s part of our dining room Christmas décor and will be used in a couple of weeks when family comes into town.
I’m not a prim and proper person. I love elegance but for me it has to be balanced with a large dose of casual, a style I call casual elegance (and which I explain more here).
Dining rooms are often the most formal rooms in a house. I’ve noticed that I like to throw a bit of coastal into my dining room decorating perhaps it’s to keep the vibe of the room on a more relaxed note.
Christmas decorating this year was no exception. I came across this fern tablecloth at Walmart on clearance for only $4 (yep I’m not too good for Walmart or wrinkled tablecloths).:-)
I coupled the green ferns and other greenery with a rich, deep blue hue found in the plates, table runner, and drapery.
The table runner was made from fabric I found for 40% off at Hobby Lobby. I thought it worked great for Christmas since the suzani pattern includes a subtle snowflake motif.
The centerpiece consists of a glammed up piece of driftwood (project here) and two decorative balls. The mini wreath gives it a Christmasy feel.
Planking the centerpiece are spa colored candles nestled in clippings of boxwood from our yard.
I dressed the chandelier up with pretty white beaded sprigs I found super cheap after Christmas at Joann’s a few years ago.
Which leads us to the décor behind the dining room table.
Boxwood clippings also found their way over to the lantern which now echoes the coastal Christmas feel of the tablescape.
Next to it gleams a gold and silver ornament tree. A touch of elegance created with (believe or not) a foam tree I scored at a garage sale for 50 cents, ornaments from the dollar store, and a glue gun.
Anybody else remember the days when Burger King and McDonalds had the plastic ball pits you could play in (think mid 80s)??
Well, I probably wouldn’t do that again but I could be persuaded (easily) to jump into a pile of pretty plastic balls if they looked as pretty as these. The things you think of when writing late at night!:-)
Lastly, using scrapbook paper as a background I cut out white letters and taped them to the wall to spell the word “Peace”.
Peace is what I hope loved ones will feel as they come to visit and hang out in our home this Holiday. Peace is what we can all feel as we celebrate the true meaning of this Holiday Season. I recently viewed this beautiful 2min. video and loved it as I feel it sums up where we can find true and lasting peace.
