Favorite Interior Designers Series – Martha O’Hara Interiors

Martha O’Hara Interiors is a Minneapolis based design firm which was started over 20 years ago by…let’s see if you can guess.  Yes, Martha O’Hara. 🙂

Although Martha still works with each client she also has a team of designers that share her serious knack for putting together beautiful, well-orchestrated spaces.

I first laid eyes on their work a couple of years ago as I perused Houzz.com.  The picture that caught my eye was of this family room.  I saved it to my “ideabook” on Houzz with the caption “I love the color of the room and the use of color and patterns.”

At the time when I first “met” Martha I was very comfortable with my almost all neutral décor palette.  Neutral walls, neutral accents, with a little bit of soft blue is what my ideal spaces consisted of (and which I still love).  But as I have studied the work of Martha and her team I have come to love the use of a bold color or pattern here and there as well.

Martha O’ Hara Interiors are masters of color and pattern play.  Check out these spaces.

They even pulled off a purple room.  It’s exquisite!

And this kitchen may look somewhat neutral at first glance until you notice the beadboard on the hutch in the back of the room is painted…

MINT green!

Although the color scheme in this room is uneventful there is a lot of pattern play going on between the drapes, rug, and pillows.

I love this classic black and white kitchen with the shiny tiled backsplash and yellow chairs in the background. Cool rug too!

This craft room totally has a coastal vibe.  I love the fun wallpaper and the woven texture of the chairs and basket.

They also know how to do a neutral room with class and sophistication.  I love those floors and the light fixtures.

This media room has more of a contemporary feel but the color play of blues and oranges is expertly executed.

The architectural details in their design work is above and beyond.  I love the idea of the walls of this archway being  trimmed out in wainscoting and crown molding.

Here is a cozy room to end with that is patterned with stripes in the rug, pillows, and chairs and a color play of earthy browns with a pop of pink.

So why do I love the work of Martha O’Hara Interiors?  I love their attention to architectural detail and woodwork.    I love how they are able to bring a room alive with pops of color and pattern play but still achieve a relaxed, inviting space.

I love how they make color seem not so scary after all.:-)  I’ve definitely been inspired by their work to make more color “risks” like the kids vanity color and the bold DIY lattice rug.

If you are drawn to their work you can enjoy more of their beautifully decorated spaces at their Project Gallery .  I hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!
